Goddesses and Queens, Princesses and Rock Stars

Why? What's the connection? Ted, how late did you stay up doing this?

The answer to all those questions is: yes.

All of these women were actresses or musicians or both. They were all born between 1942 and 1946. They all peaked career-wise around the same time, late 60s - early 70s.

I have CD's by Faithfull and Longet. They are both great and totally different. Faithfull sings like she's dying, and Longet sings like a little girl. A little French girl. A few years ago I saw a picture of Pallenberg in a magazine and was knocked for a loop. Tate was drop dead gorgeous and married to Roman Polanski when Manson & Co. killed her.

Faithfull and Pallenberg hung out with the Rolling Stones, had songs written about them or for them. They were all romantically linked with each other at some time or another. Were on drugs like mad. And there were arrests.

Sharon Tate made The Fearless Vampire Killers for her husband director Roman Polanski. Claudine Longet was married to Andy Williams for a while, and turned up all sweet and cute with Peter Sellers in The Party. Both films 1968. Then a few years later, Claudine killed boyfriend Spider Sabitch. But not before Manson murdered Sharon Tate and her unborn child! Did you know that Steve McQueen had originally planned on going to that death party, but at the last minute decided not to?

Marianne Faithfull is lately making a pretty decent comeback in the music world. The rest are in seclusion (Longet), should be in seclusion (Pallenberg), or dead (Tate).

A little more information is below, but if you click on the pictures you will be taken to more comprehensive sites on those people (not mine).

Sharon's was born in Dallas, Texas, but her early life was one of constant moving as her father served in the military. When she lived in Italy, she was voted "Homecoming Queen" of her high school. After being an extra in a few Italian films, Sharon headed to Hollywood where she would again start as an extra. Sharon had enormous brown eyes and a dazzling smile. Her first big break came when she was cast as the shapely bank secretary, Janet Trego, in the Television Series "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1963-1965). Was originally cast in the role of "Billie Jo" on Petticoat Junction, but because she had posed in Playboy magazine, she was taken off before an espisode could be filmed In 1967, she would meet her future husband, Director Roman Polanski, on the set of the English film The Fearless Vampire Killers. Polanski and Tate married on January 20, 1968. Sharon's big role would be that same year when she was the starlet in Valley of the Dolls (1967). With her marriage to Roman, her life became one of parties, travel, and meeting influential movie people. She would appear as a red haired beauty in the spy spoof The Wrecking Crew (1969) working with Dean Martin. Sharon then took time off from films as she awaited the birth of her first child. On August 9, 1969, an 8-months-pregnant Sharon Tate and four other people were murdered by members of the "Manson family", in Bel-Air.
