Pete and Steve

Am going through old emails and thought this one from Pete was pretty funny. Pete and Steve and visiting-from-Australia Lisa went to see Eva Marie Saint speak at the Stanford Theatre and see North By Northwest...

Last night's Eva Marie Saint event was pretty great on the drive down, Steve played this mix tape that had hard core rap mixed with soundtracks from your old Barbie-GI Joe videos, then a 45 of Billy Joel belting out Uptown Girl, only to have the record speed up and then slow down and mix back into gangsta rap.

Then we went to that compact disc land and that old poster store and Lisa bought a beautiful rear Window re-release poster, and I bought a bootleg cd of the Stones live in New York 1972 that rules, and a Charlies Angels keychain from the UK thats pretty sweet.

The line for Northwest went way around the corner.huge, completely sold out. Even so, I managewd to save three seats like in the third row, and then Eva Marie Saint comes down and sits in some reserved seats like two rows behind us. She looks great and was totally warm and sweet to the fans, kinda like Tony George.

Steve got up and headed over to say hi right away, which was a bizarre and funny sight. Lisa introduced herself and said how much she loved Northwest. At one point Steve looked around the theater, then said "This place is nice, but they should let you drink and smoke in here"

Popcorn and cokes were free. Popcorn at the Stanford is worth buying because its very delicious. Then they showed some fun old clips from Whats My Line with Tony Randall when he was about 19, and Eva's Oscar speech for Waterfront, and some never before seen unused movietone Newsreel footage of Northwest's premiere in Chicago.

Then the last remaining original dye color print of NBN to a packed house. Killer. Then Eva Marie came up and kicked ass on the Q&A. I asked what she thought of Psycho when she saw it and she told a couple of cool stories, including Hitchcock telling her he might want her to play the blonde.

Then Packard said, if anybody wants to stay longer, they'll show On the Waterfront for free. such a good viber. I wonder how many times Scorsese has come to the Stanford.

Then we went to the diner.
